Marta Elva was born, Marta Elva Rangel, in Juarez, Mexico and raised in El Paso, TX.  She took the name Gibbons thirty-two years ago when she married her husband, Michael.  Marta graduated Cum Laude from Emerson College in Boston; a big accomplishment for a GED graduate.

Her experience in television production and independent film spans over three decades.  She’s worked for such notable institutions as National Geographic and WNET, the flagship station of PBS, in New York City.

At National Geographic, Marta was part of the team that developed and produced the first NATGEO children’s series, Really Wild Animals, hosted by Dudley Moore.

Marta received several regional Emmy nominations for programs she produced at PBS, including, Setting the Stage, hosted by Lynn Redgrave, and Killin’ Jazz at Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis.

Marta also worked on programs like Pete Seeger’s 90th Birthday Celebration at Madison Square Garden, interviewing celebrities that included Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews, Joan Baez and others.
An advocate for union labor, Marta served on the Council of the Writers Guild of America East in New York City.  The Guild represents screenwriters for the film and television industry.

In 2011, Marta moved to Matlacha (Mat-la-chay), Florida where she mentored students through the Beacon of Hope organization in Pine Island, FL.  Marta’s own life experiences, as reflected in American Tumbleweeds, helped her make a strong connection with the kids.

Marta’s first novel, American Tumbleweeds, is published by Circling Rivers in Richmond, VA.
